Colombian boxer Edison Miranda to fight Allan Green / Boxeador colombiano Edison Miranda peleará con Allan Green

I'm not a big boxing fan, but anytime a fighter I really like comes around, I get all excited. My new favorite is middleweight Edison Miranda, who I've mentioned on this blog before. Looks like he's going to be back in the ring next month (link) with Allan Green. Miranda is no joke, he KO'd a hapless Willie Gibbs in the first round in his last fight, ducking a lazy jab to ponk Gibbs on the head with a shot that practically spun him around backwards. Miranda got a bad call in the middleweight title fight with Abraham, but before losing in decision, he broke the guy's jaw in two places. The boxing folks weren't happy with the decision, and Abraham has to take on Miranda when he comes to the States later this year. Of course, Green is no slouch either. Like Miranda he's undefeated, aggressive and strong and has a long reach. His knockout of Codrington in 18 seconds (this guy's left hook is frickin scary!) in 2005 was named the Knockout of the Year by Ring magazine. For a sport that tends to match good fighters with powder-puffs until they have a title match, this is an unusually good fight by two title belt contenders. The Miranda - Green fight is actually the pre-show to the welterweight title fight between Miguel Cotto and Oktay Urkal, will probably be a better fight. It's on HBO on March 3rd at 9:30 PM EST.
