Conference: Race in the Transnational Caribbean
In an attempt to develop an intellectual space for inter-disciplinary perspectives on Latinos and race, the Department of Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies has organized a day-long conference that will begin with a panel in which three scholars, Ginetta Candelario (Smith College), Jorge Duany (University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras), and Isar Godreau (University of Puerto Rico - Cayey) will showcase work on various topics related to race in the Caribbean and Caribbean communities in the U.S.
Through this conference we hope to begin a process of developing dialogues that transcend the traditional Black-white U.S. racial binary and recognize the nuanced ways in which Latinos have come to impact the country’s racial landscape.
The public panel is open to faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and staff.
