This very interesting interview by Ned Sublette with Dr. Ivor Miller discusses the political importance of the Abakuá secret societies in the political structure of the Calabar region in Africa and in the formation of Cuban culture. Miller has worked to reconnect African and Cuban adherents of the religion and exposes some of the deep resonances of abakuá in Cuban son. Deep stuff!
