Since there's free internet in the Bogotá airport (very civilized, as opposed to the exorbitant fees in US airports!), I can't help but post.

Habiendo internet gratis en el puente aéreo de Bogotá (muy civilizado, en comparación con las carísimas tarifas en los aeropuertos gringos!), no puedo sino hacer unos posts.

Kioku

Some friends' excellent avant-garde/traditional electronic/jazz Asian/Japanese band, KIOKU, has gotten some good press from All About Jazz: New York. They have an ongoing residency at Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, and they're highly recommended, so go check them out and get over the whole Stockhausen thing.

De nuevo voy a estar tocando con happyfunsmile, el preminente grupo de pop japonés de NY (bueno, el único grupo de pop japonés de NY) miércoles 9 de mayo, en Forbidden City, en la Ave. A entre 13 y 14. Nos vemos ahí!

La página no quiere traducirse, no sé porque, pero vé cliqueando los links para ver como la gente en el Japón está entrenado los robots a ser más amenos a la interaccíon social con las personas. Interesante que central en la concepción de lo social para estos investigadores son a) la mirada a la cara y b) el ritmo. Por eso, el robotcito amarrillo aquel, como se ve en el video, está entrenado mirarte en la cara y bailar a la música. Y no baila mal!

Okinawan pop / Música popular de Okinawa

Para los que están leyendo desde NY, vengan a ver este grupo. Voy a estar tocando percusión con Happyfunsmile, grupo de música popular de Okinawa, la isla tropical que es como el Puerto Rico del Japón. También vamos a estar tocando Enka, Chindon, y cualquier otro género musical popular japonés que podamos agarrar. Aquí está su página web, y aquí la del sitio donde vamos a tocar el miércoles 28 a las 8:30pm. La entrada es gratis y el "kakuni" (carne de puerco) que sirven es halucinante!

I'll be playing percussion with Happyfunsmile, Okinawan pop band, playing the music of the Japanese version of Puerto Rico (Okinawa), as well as Enka, Chindon, and any other related musical genre that we can get our hands on.
